Keep Calm and Bowl More Strikes

We’ve all been there: you step up to take your turn at the lane and find you just can’t focus. Maybe you’re thinking about all the things that happened at work. Maybe you’re worried about everything that’s going on tomorrow. Maybe you just feel nervous about people watching you! Whatever’s got you distracted, it can really do a number on your game. How do you relax and stay focused while bowling?Youth Bowling League

First of all, remember to only bring what you need to the lane. That means leave your expectations for your game and your problems from the day at the door. Some players find it useful to create a ritual to help them shed their outside concerns and get “in the zone.” Maybe you want to make like Mr. Rogers while you’re swapping out your street shoes for bowling shoes, and give yourself a little pep talk (or even sing yourself an inspirational song). Your pre-bowling warmup is a great time for this.

Make sure you stay occupied between turns. Don’t let yourself get bogged down with worrying about your score, or dissecting the competition. Once you get set up on the approach, take a deep breath and focus your attention on what you’re doing. And remember, above all bowling is a game. The most important thing is to have fun!
