So you’ve been spending more and more time at the lanes and you’re starting to get the hang of a nice hook. You’re rolling turkeys and picking up spares left and right. Maybe you’re even considering signing up for a fall league? But you can’t very well take it to the next level using a house ball. It’s time to pick out your own ball!
At Richmond 40 Bowl, we know a thing or two about finding the right bowling ball for you. So check out some of our tips before you hit the pro shop.
There’s nothing like bowling with a ball specifically customized to your needs. When You pick out your ball, you want to add a pound or two to your usual house ball weight. House balls never fit perfectly and therefore, they are harder to grip. When you have a ball drilled specifically for your hand, you’ll notice that the extra weight will feel just right.
There are a couple types you can choose from when it comes to materials. Polyester bowling balls are great entry-level bowlers how aren’t trying to get a big hook. These balls are usually priced under $100. Or you can step up to a performance ball which is made out of reactive resin. These balls will allow you to put some wild spin on your roll without losing any control.
Now that you’ve picked out the material and weight of your ball, it’s time to get those finger holes just right. Your pro shop will drill out holes to fit your hand. You can choose to leave the holes as is or add finger grips. Grips allow you to add a little extra spin but it can be a little tricky to pick up at first.
These are a few things to keep in mind when you’re picking out your own bowling ball, but no matter what you choose, we alway have a lane for you here at Richmond 40 Bowl.
